Jacquard Solarfast Wash

Jacquard SolarFast Wash is an essential finishing step when working with SolarFast dyes on fabric or paper. Specially formulated to remove undeveloped dye, this wash helps prevent backstaining during rinsing and laundering, ensuring clean whites and crisp highlights are preserved in your final print.

Designed to be used after exposure, Jacquard SolarFast Wash plays a critical role in the SolarFast process, particularly for photographic prints, photograms and shadow prints. By clearing excess dye that has not been activated by sunlight, the wash improves image clarity and long-term durability of the design.

Jacquard SolarFast dyes are light-sensitive and only develop colour when exposed to UV light, allowing artists to create highly detailed images using sunlight. Objects, transparencies or shadows placed on the painted surface block the light to form unique prints on fabric or paper. Once exposure is complete, Jacquard SolarFast Wash is used to stop further development and stabilise the image.

SolarFast is suitable for a wide range of creative techniques including painting, tie dyeing, screen printing, stamping and batik, with no heat setting or chemical fixing required. On fabric, the dye remains soft to the touch, while on paper it leaves no surface texture, making it ideal for mixed media applications.
